Transition Workshops 2022

Transition to secondary school is a significant step in every young person’s journey in education and beyond. Providing the information and guidance to support that process is a responsibility we take very seriously.

See below details for our Transition Workshops taking place as part of our Year 7 Induction, helping our future students get ready for September 22.

Our transition workshops present excellent opportunities for your child to get to know the school site, their new teachers and fellow students. Bookings can be made two weeks prior to the event date and we will send further details closer to the time.

DT Transition Workshop - Thursday, 31 March 2022

Subject: Design & Technology

Numbers: 60 Students (In rooms W04 & W05)

Activity: Students will be working in small teams to explore different forces and design and build structures to test these forces on.

Science Transition Workshop - Thursday, 21 April 2022

Subject: Science

Numbers: 60 Students

Activity: The science transition workshop will allow you to enter the magical world of Hogwarts to come to the aid of Harry, Ron and Hermione to help them work out what and who poisoned Professor Dumbledore!

Mathematics Transition Workshop - Thursday, 12 May 2022

Mathematics Transition Workshop

Numbers: 90 Students

Activity: Students will be working with the maths teachers of SST to complete some fun puzzles, code breakers and numeracy challenges, getting to know your future Maths teachers and what Maths is like in a secondary school.

Humanities Transition Workshop - Thursday, 26 May 2022

Numbers: 40 students

Activity: This is an exciting collaboration between the Humanities and Drama department where students will be Mapping the historical events of Queen Elizabeth II reign in celebration of her platinum jubilee. Students will be encouraged to travel back in time , research a key event given to them by teachers where they need to create a horrible histories song / rap and perform it. This will then end with a mock Tea party.

Computer Science Transition Workshop - Thursday, 9 June 2022

Students: 60

Classrooms: W14 & W15

Topic: Students will be having the opportunity to work with our computer science team to have a go at Python programming. They will be learning all about the program and will have the opportunity to use this to program drawings of different shapes and scenes.

Languages and Linguistics Transition Workshop - Thursday, 16 June 2022*

Students: 60

Classrooms: E14 & E15

Topic: With its focus on the science of language and all the fascinating insights it has to offer, our Languages and Linguistics curriculum here at SST is unique. This is your chance to go beyond the words and get a taste of the intricacies and patterns that underly the incredible variety of languages spoken across the globe.

Art Transition Workshop - Thursday, 23 June 2022

Topic: Students will be studying Picasso and will be creating masks inspired by his work. During a fun collaborative art workshop involving drawing skills, 3D forms and working with your new peers.
