Sport & Physical Activity
This applied qualification offers a blend of theoretical study and practical skill development, covering the science of sport, coaching, event organisation, and health. It prepares students for further study or careers in sports science, coaching, fitness, and wellbeing by developing leadership, analytical, communication, and problem-solving abilities.
Topics and Module Outline
Mandatory Units:

Unit 1: Body Systems and the Effect of Physical Activity
Examines skeletal, muscular, cardiovascular, respiratory, and energy systems, connecting their structure and function to sport and activity performance.

Unit 2: Sports Coaching and Activity Leadership
Focuses on the theory and practice of coaching and leadership, developing skills in planning, delivering, and reviewing sports sessions and understanding roles, responsibilities, and principles.

Unit 3: Sports Organisation and Development
Explores the structure of sport in the UK, roles and collaboration of sports organisations, sports development practice, and evaluation of sports initiatives.

Entry Requirements
Grade 5 (or above) in GCSE PE or a Level 2 Merit (or above) in an equivalent sports course.

Assessment Structure

Progression Pathways
The course supports progression to degrees in sport and exercise science, sports studies, sports coaching, fitness, health and wellbeing promotion, and related higher apprenticeships.
